On August 1, Chargé d’affaires Eric Green participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the Polish Underground and Homeland Army in Warsaw in honor of the 74th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Participants in the ceremony included the Mayor of Warsaw, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm, Head of the Association of Polish Underground Army Veterans, and Warsaw Uprising veterans.
The Warsaw Uprising, which began on August 1, 1944 ,and lasted 63 days, was a heroic attempt by the Polish resistance Home Army (Armia Krajowa) to free the city of Warsaw from Nazi German occupation during World War II. It was the single largest military resistance effort made by a European resistance group during the war.
