Embassy Supports Słupsk Philharmonic’s Centennial Celebration of American Music

Leonard Bernstein

On November 23 in Słupsk the Wojciech Kilar Polish Philharmonic Sinfonia Baltica will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer Leonard Bernstein’s birth with a special concert of American music.  The Bernstein concert – one in a planned series of classical American music concerts – is also dedicated to the centennial of Poland’s rebirth as a nation in 1918 and the support that America provided.  The concert program will include the well-known Symphonic Dances from the West Side Story musical to the overture to Bernstein’s Candide, both pieces conducted by Sinfonia Baltica’s artistic director.  The program will also feature music by George Gershwin including the Rhapsody in Blue and the Piano Concerto in F-major with Artur Jaron on piano.  The concert will also include Hoe Down from Aaron Copland’s ballet Rodeo inspired by American folk music.  The U.S. Embassy is a proud supporter of the Bernstein centennial concert.
