On June 14, 2017 the U.S. Embassy Warsaw donated to the Zespół Szkół in Redzikowo about 500 English language books for young readers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. U.S. servicemen from the nearby military base in Redzikowo joined the Embassy’s Counselor of Public Affairs, Christopher Midura, in a ceremony at the school with area leaders.
“On behalf of Ambassador Jones and the U.S. Embassy, I am very glad that our final donation from this giant bridge of books shipment is going to Redzikowo, a community with which we have developed such a close relationship due to the presence of U.S. military forces here,” stated Midura.
The U.S. Embassy Warsaw has distributed nearly 20,000 English language elementary school books to schools and citiy libraries throughout Poland through the Department of Defense’s “Bridge of Books” program. The books have been donated from U.S. military bases which have been closed or relocated as a result of the military’s strategic realignment and preference for heel-to-toe deployments on the Eastern flank.
The books being donated to the school in Redzikowo consist of fiction for children and teens, popular science books, history, geography, biology, and English language grammar textbooks.
This was the final distribution of the 20,000 books which have been sent to more than 100 communities throughout Poland including to Wroclaw, Gorzow Wielkopolski, Katowice, Opole, Stegna, and Trabki Wielkie.
