On January 27 in Warsaw, Deputy Chief of Mission B. Bix Aliu participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes Monument in Warsaw to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It was on this day, 75 years ago, that the German Nazi extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated by Soviet forces in 1945. The event was organized by the Warsaw-based Shalom Foundation and included remarks by Polish government officials, Warsaw city authorities, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. Leaders of different religious faiths offered prayers after the wreath-laying, which uniformed Polish military personnel facilitated. Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Warsaw also attended the commemorations.
