Demonstration Alert – U. S. Embassy, Warsaw (August 11-12, 2021)
Location: Warsaw
Event: Additional demonstrations will occur in front of the Sejm on Wiejska on August 11 and 12, 2021, beginning at approximately 1100 until approximately 1900. The demonstrations are related to opposition to any action aimed at restricting freedom of speech and media freedom in Poland, and there is the potential for additional demonstrations in the coming days. The exact number of participants is not known but could be upwards of several thousand. Traffic congestion is expected in downtown Warsaw. While police are not expecting any violence, American citizens are urged to be cautious and take the following actions:
- Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep a low profile.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Enroll in Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates.
