Embassy supports jazz partnership between Poland and United States

Berklee School of Music musicians play a set of music with Bednarska jazz students

In late December the Embassy supported the deepening relationship between Warsaw’s well known Bednarska Jazz College and the Berklee School of Music in Boston.

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the founding of one of Poland’s leading jazz education institution — the Bednarska Jazz Study Center — the Embassy provided support of a jazz exchange by two prominent instructors from Berklee.  Jim Walker, an accomplished guitarist and Mark Walker, a Grammy-winning percussionist provided master classes to Bednarska students and then the duo performed with students and Bednarska alumni in the 25th anniversary jubilee concert held at the Capitol Theater.   Public Affairs Officer Frank Finver spoke at the opening of the concert and accepted an award from the Director of Chopin’s National Music School recognizing the valuable role that the U.S. Embassy has played over the years in cultivating Poland’s jazz traditions.  Mr. Finver called jazz “a natural bridge of communication between Poland and the United States.”
