Last last month in the city of Poznań, U.S. Fulbright Fellow, visiting professor, and accomplished pianist Pamela Howland gave the latest of her captivating public performances throughout Poland on “Chopin Meets the Beatles: Songs of Love, Loss & Longing.” Appearing at the Stary Browar mall in Poznan as the guest of Poznań’s Adam Mickiewicz University, Ms. Howland played music by Poland’s beloved treasure, Fryderyk Chopin, and England’s Fab Four the Beatles. During her performance, Howland played original musical arrangements of Beatles tunes that she created and which took the Beatles back to Chopin and the eternal musical landscape he created. She paired favorite Chopin pieces with the Beatles arrangements and spoke with the audience on the artistic process that this involved. She also discussed the musical ideas that fascinated Chopin as well as the Beatles when they were creating and performing their unforgettable music.
