On Thursday, June 26 at the Brain Embassy co-working space in Warsaw, the U.S. Embassy’s Environment, Science, Technology, and Health Officer Alison Behling gave opening remarks at the inauguration of the “Make the Change in Fashion – Ethical Fashion Hackathon” organized by the Siec Przesiebiorczych Kobiet (the Network of Women Entrepreneurs). “Make the Change in Fashion” encourages new thinking and solutions in the fields of fashion, design, and retail that will focus on sustainable development and a circular economy. The project will bring together young female professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM), experts from the fashion and design industries, as well as IT professionals in a series of workshops, followed by a hackathon, pitching competition, and a public closing ceremony. During her remarks, Ms. Behling highlighted that, “the U.S. government has been a longstanding, committed supporter of entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment. Wee do so because it is key to stimulating economic growth and increasing prosperity for us all.” The U.S. Embassy is a proud supporter of the Ethical Fashion Hackathon project and would like to congratulate Siec Przesiebiorczych Kobiet for its progressive initiative.
