Krakow: The winner of Smogathon Has Been Announced

Thomas Zia,  consul from the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow, attended the 2016 Smogathan final event, where the winner was announced from 10 finalists.  The Smogathon is an event where teams present their ideas for how to best combat smog.  Over 30 teams from around the world, among them engineers, scientists, students and entrepreneurs, attended this year’s edition and showcased their technological solutions to air pollution.

In this year’s event Green City Solutions, from Berlin, Germany, won the main prize of 100,000 Polish zloty.  They designed a CityTree, which is a green filter made of moss that cleans the same amount of air as 275 urban trees.  Consul Zia was very impressed by the excellent, innovative ideas presented by teams from around the world to improve air quality for us all.
