U.S. Representatives Douglas Lamborn (R-CO), Stephen Cohen (D-TN), Garland Barr (R-CA), John Shimkus (R-IL), and Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) visited Poland on August 28th to meet civil society leaders and develop a deeper understanding of the destruction of the Jewish community during WWII and discuss recent efforts revitalizing the Jewish community in Poland. During a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, the group laid a wreath in front of the execution wall expressing condolences on behalf of the American people. The group also met with Jewish community leaders at the Krakow Jewish Community Centre to hear about ongoing efforts to support remaining holocaust survivors, assist Poles looking to explore their Jewish ancestry, and provide the wider community with Jewish cultural events.
