On May 5, 2018 U.S. Marines took part in the American Sports Picnic in Lublin. The event was organized by the Titans of Lublin – an American football team and the Ravens Lublin Baseball club. Marines demonstrated a military fitness test and invited spectators to see if they could pass the test too. Two sports were featured at the event – American football and baseball. The Marines showed the public the technique of throwing and catching both a baseball and football. Visitors were also able to watch the Titans Pearls cheerleaders and younger spectators had a chance to play both baseball and American football during the day’s activities.
The embassy had the pleasure be a partner of this event within its Sports UP initiative aimed at strengthening relations between the United States and Poland through the promotion of sports, in particular American sports. It connects Poles, and especially the young generation, to the culture of sport in the USA and the values that sport brings – teamwork, responsibility, integration and tolerance.
The event is part of the embassy’s campaign “100 Years Together”, in which we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence and establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and the USA.
