Assistant Army Attaché MAJ Mark Sturgeon participated in a mass and wreath laying at a monument in Warsaw commemorating General Stanislaw Maczek’s Polish 1st Armored Division on February 25, which marked the 75th anniversary of the division formation in Duns, Scotland. General Maczek is reputed to have never lost a battle.
The Polish 1st Armored Division is a symbol of the Polish people’s great contribution to World War II. The division later proved instrumental in the Allied’s efforts to liberate France and Holland. The monument also recognizes the soldiers of the Polish 1st Armored Division who lost their lives on the battlefields of Poland, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
