Message for U.S. Citizens – U.S. Embassy Warsaw – November 18, 2019
This message contains important information regarding Social Security numbers (SSNs) and U.S. passport application procedures.
All applicants who have an SSN must provide the SSN on their U.S. passport application, including renewal applications. Applicants are advised to check their correct SSN before arriving at the Embassy for their appointment and to properly fill out the SSN field on the passport application. The American Citizen Services Unit is prohibited from providing applicants with their SSN; there are no exceptions.
Applicants who do not have an SSN must sign an affidavit stating that they do not have an SSN as part of the passport application. All U.S. citizens who do not have an SSN are encouraged to apply for one.
All services related to Social Security are provided by the Federal Benefits Unit (FBU). Passport applicants who have forgotten their SSN and need to confirm the correct number may apply for a new Social Security card through FBU.
