Embassy Supports the 12th Edition of Marcin Gortat Camps for Young Basketball Players

The U.S. Embassy in Warsaw supported the 12th edition of the Marcin Gortat Camps, a series of basketball workshops for children organized by the Marcin Gortat Foundation. This year’s camps took place in Rumia, Łódź, Karpacz, and Warsaw. They consisted of workshops for children with disabilities, other basketball activities offered by the Marcin Gortat Camps, and the Junior NBA Clinics.  The camps were an opportunity for Polish children to be coached by the best players and coaches. On July 13th in Gortat’s hometown of Łódź, an exhibition game took place between the Gortat Team, including many Polish celebrities, and the Polish Army. The game is a way for Marcin Gortat to pay tribute to military personnel and their families. Embassy employees also travelled to Łódź to watch the game live.

At the event, eight of the best players selected during the camps took part in the Skills Challenge happening at half-time, and won the main prize – a trip to the U.S. where MG 13 organizes an educational visit (kids go to an NBA game and visit an American school). Award recipients have an exciting adventure ahead of them, with a trip to the United States to take part in a cultural program organized by the foundation, and sponsored by the Embassy through a grant.
