Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell visited Warsaw from November 11-14 and met with Polish counterparts to underscore the United States’ commitment to Polish-American relations.
During his visit, Assistant Secretary Mitchell participated in Polish Independence Day ceremonies and met with several senior government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski and Ministry of Defense Undersecretary of State Tomasz Szatkowski with whom he discussed a range of bilateral issues as well as U.S. and NATO efforts to bolster Poland’s and the region’s security.
Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell took the oath of office as Assistant Secretary of State on October 12, 2017. As Assistant Secretary he is responsible for diplomatic relations with 50 countries in Europe and Eurasia, and with NATO, the EU and the OSCE. This was his first trip to Poland as Assistant Secretary.
