Recruitment for the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX)

American Councils for International Education in cooperation with the United States Embassy in Poland have started recruiting for the next edition of the FLEX Program (Future Leaders Exchange Program). The program which is targeted at third-graders of gymnasium and first-grade highs school students gives them the opportunity to study one year in American high school and live with an American family. The purpose of the program is to promote mutual respect and understanding between the citizens of the United States and the people of other countries. Deadline for submissions is 17 October 2017.

The program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State and is for students who were born between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2002, currently attend the 3rd grade gymnasium or 1st grade of the high school and have a good command of English. The FLEX program covers travel expenses, a scholarship for personal expenses, accommodation with the family in the U.S., an American high school program, pre-departure training in Poland, and medical insurance. The FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange Program) was approved by the U.S. Congress in 1992. It is an all-year, fully-funded by the U.S. Department State exchange program for high school students who travel to the United States for the entire school year. The program aims to strengthen ties between U.S. citizens and representatives of other countries. It is thanks to the participants of the program Americans can learn more about the culture and national heritage other nations.

This is the 3rd edition of the program in Poland. So far, 60 Polish high school students have been given the chance to go to the U.S. for the whole school year and study in an American high school. They lived in different states: from California to South Carolina, from Texas to Minnesota. They attended various high schools, took part in sports competitions and  volunteer actions.
