The XII SuperFinal of the Polish League of American Football

The XII Super Final of the Polish League of American Football (PLFA) took place at the Municipal Stadium in Lodz on Saturday June 25, 2017.  The Wroclaw Panthers finished the season undefeated, beating the Gdynia Seahawks for the second year in a row with a final score of 55-21.

Embassy representatives hosted an information tent during the SuperFinal’s pre-game picnic. American football fans learned about education programs in the U.S. as well as opportunities at the local American Corner in Lodz. Fans of all ages enjoyed showing off their throwing skills, talking about sports, and taking pictures with U.S. Army soldiers.  During the picnic, the Embassy handed out more than 500 American flags and other American souvenirs and interacted with about 2,000 people.

Showing his support for the SuperFinal, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Paul W. Jones tweeted, “It is super that American football is becoming more and more popular in Poland and that many people visited our stand.”

The U.S. Embassy’s Sports Diplomacy Program builds cross-cultural relationships through shared interests in sports.  Sporting events break down linguistic and sociocultural barriers in order to bring people together.

Congratulations to the Wroclaw Panthers on their victory!
