On October 10, POL/ECON Counselor Kathleen Morenski and the Embassy’s Environment, Science, Technology, and Health team took part in a tree-planting ceremony at Pole Mokotowskie Park in Warsaw, hosted by NGO Klub Gaja. The event was the kickoff of a yearlong series of “Festival of the Tree” events and activities, and a little bit of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of several dozens of volunteers, city officials, and eager tree planters!
“Festival of the Tree,” first held in 2003, is an international year-long program to promote tree planting, with an accompanying program for ecological education. It is inaugurated on October 10 every year. There will be a follow-up October 20 tree planting event hosted by Partnership for Climate, a coalition of NGO’s, the City of Warsaw, and various private initiatives. Participants at the October 20th event will largely include local volunteers, schoolchildren, and working-level representatives from Embassies in Warsaw.
